Where it is, this Krumpa? Get some facts!
In the middle of Germany,
in Saxony-Anhalt, county Saalekreis. There goes a rivulet named Geisel flowing through
the lake Geiseltal, to the river Saale. This rivulet gave the region the name:
Geiseltal. On the south waterside of the new lake “Geiseltalsee” Krumpa lies up
to a hight of 130 meters.
Here live about 1000 people.
Since january 2007 Krumpa is district in town Braunsbedra.
To visit our region: take the highway A38 and use the
gateway Merseburg Mücheln Braunsbedra towards Braunsbedra. (traffic jam?)
What we
know about the history:
- boulder period
- In the Middle Eocen in the region Geiseltal
was preparing the brown coal.
- In the area of our hometown a fossil horse was found and also other fossil animals. The
Geiseltalmuseum in Halle/Saale shows a special explanation showing reconstructed
animals.
- Our ancestors who were living in this
region were german people so called “Wenden”. They prepared ceramic
vessels with twine decoration. Parts of this ceramics people found by
grounding their houses in area of our village.
- The coalmining industry was started 300 years ago. Now
the mine is closed and will become a lake: "Geiseltalsee"
- The chemical industry in our region was
started in 20.century with producing lube oil on basis of brown coal by
using the modern Fischer-Tropsch-Synthesis.
The Wintershall-Schmalfeldt Process for the manufacture of Synthesis Gas
at Lützkendorf was operating
in 1936, as one of the first in Germany. "12th May 1944 - 800 bombers
of the US 8th Air Force carry out attacks against the synthetic fuel
plants at Leuna-Merseburg, Lützkendorf ..." http://www.feldgrau.com/may.html
- In World-War II prisoners of war and
foreign workers work in the chemical factory, there was a so called "Aussenlager " from the
concentration camp Buchenwald. The foreigners came from Great Britain,
Italy, Poland and France. During bombing this area, there was no
possibility to find a safe place for these person. A lot of them died by
bombs. In Krumpa is a speciell cemetery for this person, the so called
cemetery of heros.
- In 1996 we celebrated the 1100 year of
settlement in this place. Krumpa (former Crupa) was named in the list
of "Hersfelder"
monastery.
- In newer time: the Chemical industry changes
to solar energy production – now the air is far cleaner then before
- Our fire brigade as
one of the oldest auxiliary fire brgade became 175 years old in 2004.
- In 2006 we celebrated the 250. anniversary
of the death of the famous Prof. Dr. Moritz Kloss, who was burn in Krumpa
and became the dean of the
academy of physical education in Dresden. He is the so called “Father of
women’s sports”.
- In january 2007 our village became part of
the town Braunsbedra.
